A New Direction | 2022 Fall Campaign

We're Excited For What Comes Next!

Welcome back to the Goodman! The arrival of Artistic Director Susan V. Booth—the first woman to lead the Goodman in its 97 year-history—signals an exciting new era for Chicago’s oldest theater. And on stage, our 2022/2023 Daring. Dynamic. Iconic Season has opened to critical and audience acclaim!

She joins us not as a stranger, but as a passionate, experienced artist coming home: as Director of New Play Development from 1993-2001, Ms. Booth acquainted the Goodman with a notable roster of then-emerging playwrights—including Luis Alfaro, Rebecca Gilman, José Rivera and Regina Taylor. During the interval decades, she led Atlanta’s famed Alliance Theater to national excellence—including a two-time U.S. Department of Education citation as a leader in literacy development for Education programming.

As Ms. Booth settles into her new role, she has enjoyed welcoming audiences to Clyde’s by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage, a Chicago premiere following its Broadway debut, and Swing State—a world premiere by Rebecca Gilman, directed by former Artistic Director Robert Falls in a sold-out run. That’s just the beginning; five more plays follow, plus the 45th annual production of Chicago’s favorite holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol.

Alongside our shows, we continue to serve our Chicago community with free-of-charge programming. Teachers in our School Matinee Series integrated Clyde’s into their classroom curriculum, preparing students to come to the theater—many for the first time! Through GeNarrations, our life-long learners aged 55+ found meaning and connection through the power of storytelling, using themes from this same production.

None of this is possible without supporters like you. Your generosity helps us further connect with audiences and the community through our productions and Education and Engagement programs.

We hope that you will consider making a gift as we move forward with our New Direction.
