Adam Rapp is an award-winning playwright and director. He is the author of numerous plays, including Nocturne, Faster, Animals & Plants, Finer Noble Gases, Stone Cold Dead Serious, Blackbird, Gompers, Essential Self-Defense, American Sligo, Bingo with the Indians, Kindness, The Metal Children, The Hallway Trilogy, The Edge of Our Bodies, Dreams of Flying Dreams of Falling, Wolf in the River, The Purple Lights of Joppa Illinois and Red Light Winter (Jeff Award for Best New Work; OBIE; Pulitzer Prize Finalist). His most recent play, The Sound Inside, received its world premiere at the 2018 Williamstown Theatre Festival and was named one of The New York Times best plays of 2018.
Directing credits include the world premiere of Karen O's opera Stop of the Virgens (The Creators Project, St. Ann's Warehouse; The Vivid Live Festival); True West (Actors Theatre of Louisville, 2012 Best Moment in Culture), and Finer Noble Gases (Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Fringe First Award, The List's Best Newcomer Prize). Rapp is the author of eleven novels, including Under the Wolf, Under the Dog (LA Times Book Prize, Schneider Family Book Award), Punkzilla (Printz Honor Book) and 33 Snowfish (Booklist 50 Best Young Adult Novels of All Time). Film credits include Winter Passing, Blackbird and Loitering With Intent. Television credits include The L Word, In Treatment, Flesh & Bone, Vinyl and The Looming Tower.
His playwriting honors include Boston’s Elliot Norton Award, The Helen Merrill Prize, The 2006 Princess Grace Statue, a Lucille Lortel Playwright’s Fellowship, The Benjamin H. Danks Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation Award.
